Oyetola Reports 160% Revenue Surge in Marine Economy

On Thursday, Adegboyega Oyetola, the Governor of Osun State, announced a remarkable 160% surge in revenue for Nigeria's marine and blue economy agencies. This increase is projected to elevate revenues from approximately ₦700 billion at the end of 2023 to around ₦1.83 trillion by 2025.

Oyetola attributed this growth to sweeping reforms and a renewed focus on transparency and efficiency within the agencies. He emphasized that these results reflect a deliberate shift towards a result-driven government.

The governor noted that the gains were driven by strengthened regulatory oversight and improved revenue assurance mechanisms, including the digitization of key processes to prevent revenue leakages. Oyetola highlighted the importance of aligning policies with public expectations and sector priorities, which are part of broader reforms within the maritime sector, including port modernization and the approval of disbursements for cabotage vessel financing.

Stakeholders, including shipowners and trade associations, commended the ministry's performance, describing it as a sign of growing institutional discipline and rising investor confidence in Nigeria's marine and blue economy.
