Nigeria's New National Shipping Line Initiative Announced

On Thursday, Adegboyega Oyetola, during a retreat with stakeholders, announced significant progress in the effort to establish a new national shipping line, which is a major step towards strengthening Nigeria's maritime industry. This initiative is part of the federal government's broader strategy to enhance indigenous shipping capacity and modernize ports across the country.

Oyetola revealed that the government is securing interests from international partners, including DP World, to bring this vision to fruition. The new national carrier is expected to reduce dependence on foreign shipping lines, retain maritime value within the Nigerian economy, and create job opportunities.

Additionally, Oyetola addressed concerns regarding the focus on Lagos ports, clarifying that modernization efforts are underway at various ports, including Warri, Port Harcourt, and Calabar. He emphasized that these initiatives align with the federal government's economic diversification agenda and are expected to stimulate trade and attract investments across multiple sectors.
