Oyo Officials Prepare to Resign for 2027 Elections

Three prominent officials in President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration are anticipated to resign from their positions in preparation for the 2027 gubernatorial elections in Oyo State. The officials include Adebayo Adelabu, the current Minister of Power; Adebayo Shittu, a former Minister of Communications; and Rauf Olaniyan, the former Deputy Governor of Oyo State.

Their resignations are expected to comply with electoral guidelines as mandated by President Tinubu. Adelabu, who has been appointed as Minister of Power in 2023, is a gubernatorial aspirant from Ibadan.

Shittu, who has held various roles including Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of the Governing Council at the Federal University of Health Sciences, is also eyeing the gubernatorial seat. Olaniyan, who took on the role of Chairman of the Governing Council at the Federal College of Education in July 2024, is similarly positioned for the race.

Although none of the three officials have formally resigned at the time of this report, sources indicate that their exits are imminent.
