NANS, CSO Clash Over Oyo Protest Disruption

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) and a Civil Society Organization (CSO) engaged in a verbal clash over the disruption of a protest concerning the abduction of schoolchildren and a teacher in Oyo State. The incident occurred during a town hall meeting held in Ibadan, where the theme focused on security and safety.

The abductions took place on May 15, 2026, in Oriir Local Government Area, specifically targeting Baptist Nursery Primary School and Grammar School. Damilar Olayemi, the Assistant General Secretary of NANS, accused the CSO of attempting to undermine student protests by alleging that the government sponsored disruptions.

Femi Adeyey, representing NANS, emphasized that their protests were peaceful and aimed at addressing insecurity issues. The situation escalated to physical confrontations, highlighting the ongoing tensions surrounding security and the rising trend of kidnappings in Nigeria.
