Oyo State Government Targets Bandits in National Park

The Oyo State Government has committed to preventing bandits from using the Old Oyo National Park as a base for criminal activities. This declaration follows an attack on an Operation Burst security base along the Igbeti-Igboho Road in Olorunsogo Local Government Area at approximately 5 a.m. on Sunday.

Deputy Governor Barrister Bayo Lawal stated that the attack was successfully repelled by security personnel, with no casualties reported, although the building housing the troops and an operational vehicle were destroyed. Lawal urged local residents, including traditional rulers, to resist any attempts by bandits to take control of the area, emphasizing that collective efforts are essential for security.

He announced plans to fortify the attacked base and clear surrounding vegetation to enhance visibility for security personnel. Additionally, the General Officer Commanding (GOC) has deployed more troops to the area, increasing the stationed soldiers to over 35.

Lawal called on the community to provide credible information to security agencies.
