Traditionalists Urge Integration of Indigenous Security Systems

Traditionalists, represented by the Iwa organization and led by Aderemi Ifaolepin, have urged governors in South West Nigeria to formally integrate indigenous security systems to address escalating insecurity in the region. This call follows a series of kidnappings and killings, particularly affecting school children in Yorubaland, including recent incidents in Oriir Local Government Area, Oyo State.

The traditionalists condemned these acts of violence, describing them as heinous assaults on the community's cultural sanctity. They emphasized the need for a collaborative approach that combines traditional practices with modern policing to effectively identify and neutralize threats.

The statement called for the establishment of community-based vigilance structures and a visible security presence in vulnerable areas. They also urged traditional rulers and political leaders to prioritize community safety over personal interests, advocating for the preservation of Yoruba cultural values and traditions in the face of rising violence.
