Oluwo Urges FG to Empower Traditional Rulers Against Banditry

Oluwo of Iwo, Abdulrashe Akanbi, has called on the Nigerian government, led by President Bola Tinubu, to empower traditional rulers in the fight against banditry. This appeal follows a recent attack on Baptist Nursery Primary School and Yawota Community Grammar School in Oyo State, where 45 pupils and a teacher, Michael Oyedokun, were abducted on May 15.

Reports indicate that Oyedokun was beheaded by terrorists, as shown in a viral video. In a statement issued by his press secretary, Ibrahim Alli, Oluwo condemned the heinous act and suggested that the government provide necessary logistical support to traditional rulers, who should serve as the first point of contact in security matters.

He emphasized the need for collaboration between traditional rulers and local security outfits to enhance surveillance and response to threats. Oluwo also urged Yoruba stakeholders and governors in the southwest to harmonize interests and invite traditional rulers to discuss security strategies to repel bandit attacks.
