Oyo State Aims to Become South-West Tourism Capital

During the 2026 International Tourism Summit held at the University of Ibadan, Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State declared his administration's commitment to transforming Oyo into the tourism capital of South-West Nigeria. He emphasized the implementation of policies and infrastructure projects aimed at enhancing tourism, including ongoing road projects to improve connectivity and security.

Makinde announced the establishment of a 25-year tourism master plan and a 15-year concession agreement for the management of the Bower's Tower, aiming to create a stable framework for long-term investments. He acknowledged the need for sustained policies beyond individual administrations and highlighted the importance of institutionalizing tourism development.

Former Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi praised Makinde's infrastructure improvements, while other stakeholders, including Kola Lawal and Kunle Afolayan, supported the initiative to promote Oyo's cultural heritage and attract investments.
