Ozekhome Faults Withholding of Osun LG Funds, Urges AGF to Act as Chief Law Officer

Constitutional lawyer Mike Ozekhome SAN criticized the withholding of statutory allocations due to local governments in Osun State, emphasizing the need for the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF) to fulfill their constitutional duty as the Chief Law Officer of the nation. Ozekhome highlighted the legal battles surrounding the Osun local government elections, where two judgments nullified the tenure of a former APC official and validated the current PDP chairman and councillors.

He pointed out that there is no legal impediment to releasing funds to the newly elected PDP officials. Ozekhome criticized the AGF for supporting the stoppage of funds to Osun local government, calling it politically inconsistent and warned that the AGF's allegiance should be to the people and the constitution, not the government of the day.

He reiterated the need for the AGF to act professionally and in the public interest, separate from political pressures. Ozekhome also emphasized the importance of upholding the constitutional provisions for the proper functioning of the federation.
