Senator Disowns Ozoro Festival After Women's Attack

Senator Joel Onowakpo Thomas, the chairman of the Senate Committee on Local Content, publicly disowned the Ozoro festival following a violent incident involving women during the event in Oramudu Community, Isoko North Local Government Area, Delta State. He described the attack as criminal and barbaric, emphasizing that it egregiously violates human dignity.

In a statement issued on Monday, Senator Thomas expressed deep concern over the misrepresentation of Isoko people's traditions, asserting that there is no acceptance of rape or violence against women in Ozoro Kingdom or anywhere in Isoko land. He urged relevant security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation to bring justice to the victims and called for stricter measures to prevent such incidents at public events.

The senator highlighted the need for community leaders and cultural custodians to enforce these measures to protect women's rights and ensure their safety.
