Youths Demand Justice for Sexual Assault Victim in Lagos

On a recent date, youths staged a protest at the Lagos State House of Assembly, demanding justice for a victim of alleged sexual assault that occurred during the Ozoro festival in the Isoko North Local Government Area of Delta State. The demonstration featured banners advocating to "end rape culture" and expressed outrage over the incident.

Rhoda Robinson, the Executive Director of HACEI Health Initiative, described the situation as deeply disturbing, stressing that the issue extends beyond headlines and reflects broader societal problems. She noted that many survivors remain silent due to stigma and societal pressure, with significant numbers of women and girls in Nigeria experiencing sexual violence that often goes unreported.

Robinson referenced the case of Ochanya, a young girl who suffered repeated abuse, highlighting the ongoing vulnerability of girls in the country. In response to the protest, Delta State Commissioner of Police Aina Adesola, along with senior officers including Deputy Commissioner of Police Olumuyiwa Adejobi, visited the affected area to address the situation.
