Sokoto Parents Demand N100,000 Minimum Salary for Teachers

During the Parent Teacher Association (PTA) annual general meeting held on Sunday, parents in Sokoto demanded a minimum monthly salary of N100,000 for teachers, significantly higher than the current N55,000 to N60,000. PTA chairman Jamilu Sidi emphasized that better teacher welfare is essential for improving educational performance and sustaining quality education.

Parents warned that inadequate remuneration could negatively impact student academic performance. They urged school management to engage with parents regarding any potential increases in school fees and to ensure transparency in financial matters.

Loveth Bello described the current salary as unfair, noting that no teacher earns N60,000 after two decades of service. Headteacher Chivuzor David acknowledged parental support in addressing school challenges, including water supply issues, and appealed for solar power systems for the nursery section.

Sulaiman Ibrahim, chairman of the school board, supported the resolution to improve collaboration between the PTA and school management.
