Sokoto Approves 35% Salary Increase for College Lecturers

The Sokoto State government has approved a 35% salary increase for college lecturers, as announced in a communiqué issued at the end of the 37th emergency congress of the College of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) at the State College of Education (SSCOE). The communiqué was signed by chapter chairman Umar Yahaya Muhammad and secretary Abubakar Salihu Tambuw.

This salary adjustment is described as a landmark achievement that demonstrates Governor Aliyu's commitment to worker welfare and improving living standards. COEASU noted that the salary review has restored hope among workers and is expected to enhance staff morale and productivity.

The union urged its members to reciprocate this gesture with greater dedication to their profession, punctuality, and commitment to teaching and research. They reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining industrial harmony and pledged to continue cooperating with college management and the state government to advance teacher education.

The congress further appealed for sustained support for tertiary education, improved funding, and staff development programs.
