Parents Alarmed Over Uniuyo Dentistry Program Accreditation

Parents of dentistry students at the University of Uyo raised alarms regarding the non-accreditation of the dentistry program, which began in 2021. During a press conference in Uyo, they expressed fears that students might have to spend an extra year due to the lack of accreditation.

The chairman of the parents' forum, Mr. Sundai Elijah, and Otuekong Vincent Udoh voiced their pessimism about the university securing accreditation within the remaining four months before graduation for the pioneer students.

They criticized the university management for not inviting the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) for advisory visits and urged immediate measures to safeguard students. The forum highlighted the urgent need for the university to procure adequate equipment and implement alternative measures to meet accreditation standards.

Prof. Samuel Odewumi, the Vice Chancellor, acknowledged the accreditation concerns and assured that the university management would do everything possible to secure accreditation.
