Omeir Calls for Suspension of Justice Lifu Over Judicial Concerns

Rufu Omeir, a senator and candidate from the Action Peoples Party (APP) in Imo West, has urged Nigeria’s National Judicial Council (NJC) to suspend Justice Peter Lifu of the Federal High Court in Abuja. Omeir's statement, made on Tuesday, expresses concern that Lifu's actions are undermining judicial hierarchy and the rule of law, which could exacerbate the current insecurity and economic hardships facing Nigeria.

He argues that the judiciary must maintain public confidence and act swiftly to protect its integrity. Omeir cites a recent court judgment by Lifu that allegedly disregarded orders from superior courts, deeming Lifu unfit to remain on the bench.

He warns that failure to act decisively could encourage judicial recklessness and further destabilize Nigeria's democratic system. Omeir emphasizes that the judiciary is the last hope for the common man and must uphold established judicial procedures to avoid eroding public trust.
