PayPal and Nike Face Major Market Value Declines

A report by investment research platform BestBrokers revealed that 172 of the world's 1,000 largest publicly listed companies lost a combined $4.96 trillion in market capitalisation from 13 August 2021 to 25 September 2026. Among these, PayPal suffered the steepest percentage decline, with its market capitalisation plummeting by $275.6 billion, or 85.41%, from $322.65 billion to $47.08 billion.
Nike followed with a loss of $217.1 billion, representing an 80.37% decline, as its market value fell from $270.14 billion to $53.04 billion. Adobe's market cap decreased by $208.6 billion, or 69.03%.
The report excluded companies affected by major acquisitions, mergers, and other changes that could distort comparisons. Stanislava Savisheva, the data researcher and report author, attributed these declines to shifting expectations about future growth, increased competition, and challenges in adapting to consumer behavior changes.
The findings illustrate the vulnerability of market valuations, even for globally recognized brands.
