PDP asks court to sack four Osun lawmakers over defection to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has filed a suit in the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking the removal of four federal lawmakers from Osun State who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The lawmakers in question are Senators Francis Fadahunsi and Olubiyi Fadeyi, as well as House of Representatives members Taofeek Ajilesoro and Omirin Olusanya.

The PDP is invoking Section 68(1)(g) of the 1999 Constitution, which prohibits lawmakers from retaining their seats after defecting unless there is a division or faction within their party. The PDP is asking the court to declare the lawmakers' seats vacant and to stop their salary payments.

The National Assembly Clerk and the Independent National Electoral Commission are also named in the suit. This move is part of the PDP's efforts to ensure that defectors are held accountable for violating their mandate.

The case is yet to be assigned to a judge.
