Appeal Court Nullifies PDP National Convention in Ibadan

The Appeal Court has nullified the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) national convention that took place in Ibadan on November 15, 2025. A unanimous judgment was delivered by a three-member panel led by Justice Onyemenam, who addressed four key issues against the PDP, ruling that the appeal lacked merit.

The court upheld the Federal High Court's October 31 judgment, which granted relief to the plaintiffs and declared the convention invalid. The PDP leadership, represented by Tanimu Turaki SAN, dismissed the judgment as an academic exercise.

The court found that the PDP violated constitutional provisions necessary for the convention's validity, including failing to serve valid notice to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as required by law. Additionally, the court noted that valid congresses were not held in 14 states, further invalidating the convention.

The ruling emphasized that the case was not an internal party affair but a matter of compliance with statutory functions related to party conventions.
