Bauchi Governor Bala Mohammed Considers ADC Defection

Bala Mohammed, the Governor of Bauchi State, is contemplating a defection to the African Democratic Congress (ADC) amid a persistent crisis within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). This consideration follows a recent national convention where Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, took control of the party's structure.

Mohammed expressed concerns that Wike's actions could jeopardize the party's chances in the 2027 presidential elections. On Tuesday, he hosted a closed-door meeting with an ADC delegation led by former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Babachir Lawal, to discuss this potential move.

Mohammed noted that previous reconciliation efforts within the PDP have failed, leading to a serious situation where he feels compelled to explore other political platforms, including the ADC. He indicated that a final decision regarding his defection would be made soon, with an expectation of a formal declaration by Thursday.

The internal divisions within the PDP, exacerbated by external influences, have prompted this exploration of options.
