HURIWA Urges INEC to Clarify PDP Candidates' Access Codes

The Human Rights Writers Association of Nigeria (HURIWA) has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to clarify the issue surrounding candidates' access codes for the 2027 elections amid a court battle involving the People's Democratic Party (PDP). HURIWA's national coordinator, Emmanuel Nnadozi Onwubiko, emphasized the need for transparency to maintain public confidence in the electoral process.

The request follows reports of access code issues linked to a faction of the PDP associated with the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Nyesom Wike. Despite ongoing litigation, HURIWA noted that INEC must explain the legal basis for its administrative actions.

The group recalled a recent court ruling regarding the tenure of former PDP national legal adviser K. Ajibade, which expires in December 2025, and highlighted that the lack of credible evidence undermines the legal foundation for the March 29, 2026, convention.

HURIWA called for immediate clarification from INEC to address public suspicions.
