PDP Demands Probe into Alleged Gifts to INEC Officials

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has demanded an investigation into allegations that senior officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) received land and cash gifts from the Minister of Power, Bola Tinubu. This call for scrutiny follows reports that surfaced last week, raising serious concerns about the integrity of the electoral body.

PDP's national publicity secretary, Ini Ememobong, expressed the party's worries, urging INEC to address these troubling claims with full transparency. The PDP emphasized that the allegations, if true, could erode public confidence in the electoral system, particularly at a politically sensitive time.

The party questioned why benefits appeared to be directed at electoral officials while essential sectors like healthcare, education, and security did not receive similar considerations. They demanded that the INEC chairman clarify these allegations against top officials, warning that leaving the matter unresolved could further weaken public trust in the commission, which must strive to maintain impartiality and transparency.
