PDP Drags Four Osun Lawmakers To Court Over Defection

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) has taken legal action against four Osun State lawmakers who defected from the party. The affected legislators include Senator Francis Adenigba Fadahunsi, Senator Olubiyi Oluwole Fadeyi, Hon Omirin Emmanuel Olusanya, and Hon Taofeek Abimbola Ajilesoro.

The PDP filed a lawsuit on Wednesday, with lead counsel Raphael Oyewole naming the lawmakers, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, two House members, National Assembly Clerk, and the Independent National Electoral Commission as defendants. The party cited Section 68 1 g of the 1999 Constitution, arguing that lawmakers who defect from their political party should automatically lose their seats unless there is evidence of division or merger within the party.

The PDP is seeking to enforce this constitutional provision and restore order. The case is yet to be assigned to a judge for a hearing.
