PDP Drags Four Osun Lawmakers to Court Over Defection to APC

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has taken legal action against four Osun State lawmakers who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC). The PDP filed separate suits on August 20, seeking to declare the lawmakers' seats vacant as per the provisions of the 1999 Constitution.

The party argued that the legislators abandoned the platform on which they were elected, thus rendering their continued occupation of their seats unconstitutional. The PDP requested the court to compel the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives to declare the seats vacant and for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to conduct elections in the affected constituencies.

The PDP emphasized the importance of upholding constitutional provisions and ensuring strict compliance with the law. This legal action follows a similar case involving another Osun State lawmaker who defected to the APC.
