83 PDP Members Sue Imo Chairman, INEC Over State Congress

A group of 83 members of the People's Democratic Party (PDP) in Imo State has filed a lawsuit against the state chairman and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) over the August 31, 2024 state congress. The plaintiffs claim that the congress, which produced the Nwachukwu executive, was marred by exclusion and illegality, violating the Electoral Act 2022 and the party's constitution.

Led by Lambert Eze, the aggrieved members accuse the party of unlawfully excluding duly elected delegates from Ideato North and South Local Government Areas. They are seeking an order to nullify the congress, restrain the current officials, and compel a fresh, democratically held congress that includes qualified delegates.

The lawsuit also names the PDP's national body and 10 individuals, including caretaker leaders of the party in the LGAs. The plaintiffs describe the congress as unlawful and null and void, urging the court to restore integrity to the party's internal democracy.
