PDP Faction Names Jonathan as Presidential Candidate for 2027

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Kabiru Turaki (SAN) as the head of the Interim National Working Committee (INWC), has submitted the name of former President Goodluck Jonathan to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. This submission occurred amid ongoing leadership disputes within the PDP.

The faction's National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, stated that the submission was made manually due to difficulties in accessing the electronic submission platform, as INEC allegedly failed to provide the necessary access codes. Ememobong asserted that the faction remains the legitimate leadership of the PDP, citing previous court decisions that created a leadership vacuum.

The faction has approached the Federal High Court in Abuja after INEC did not recognize its interim leadership. Ememobong criticized a recent judgment by Justice Salim Oluwasupo Ibrahim and expressed confidence that the Court of Appeal would overturn it.

He also accused INEC of institutional bias against the faction.
