PDP Faction Submits Jonathan as Presidential Candidate for 2027

On Friday, a faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), led by Tanimu Turaki, announced the valid submission of former President Goodluck Jonathan as its presidential candidate for the 2027 general election, despite internal leadership disputes. The faction accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of institutional bias and undermining its credibility.

Ini Ememobong, the National Publicity Secretary of the Interim National Working Committee, stated that any recognition of candidates from other groups would damage public confidence in INEC's neutrality. The PDP is currently seeking judicial intervention after INEC allegedly refused to recognize its interim leadership, which was constituted following a Supreme Court judgment.

Despite INEC's refusal to provide access codes for electronic submissions, the PDP manually submitted its list of candidates, including Jonathan, in compliance with the Electoral Act 2026. The party urged its members to remain hopeful if INEC publishes names from other factions.
