PDP Primaries: Adebutu, Lado, Lamido Emerge as Candidates

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) held governorship primaries on Sunday, May 24, 2026, across various states in Nigeria ahead of the 2027 general elections. Oladipupo Adebutu emerged as the consensus candidate for Ogun State, receiving 77,013 votes.

In Katsina State, Senator Yakubu Lado was declared the winner with 72 votes from a total of 78,085 accredited voters. Mustapha Sule Lamido, son of former Governor Sule Lamido, was confirmed as the PDP candidate for Jigawa State.

Michael Aondoakaa was unveiled as the candidate for Benue State, with Dr. Oyij Ogbenjuwa as his running mate.

Tensions arose in Gombe State as some aspirants rejected alleged manipulations during the selection process. Adebutu urged party members to remain united and work towards victory in the upcoming elections, while former Ekiti State Governor Ayodele Fayose called for collaboration among party members to elevate the party's status.
