PDP to Hold First NEC Meeting at Wadata Plaza

The People's Democratic Party (PDP) is scheduled to hold its first National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at its national headquarters, Wadata Plaza. This follows the reopening of the party's secretariat, which had been sealed since November of the previous year due to violent confrontations among factions loyal to Tanimu Turaki and Abdulrahman Moham.

The leadership crisis escalated in March when a court of appeal invalidated the Ibadan convention that produced the Turaki-led leadership. The Moham-led faction is reportedly backed by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory.

Key figures expected to attend the NEC meeting include Nyesom Wike, former Senate President Bukola Saraki, and former Abia State Governor Okezie Ikpeazu. Meanwhile, the faction loyal to Wike has expressed intentions regarding the presidential candidacy for the 2027 elections, with Wike openly declaring support for the re-election of President Bola Tinubu.

Additionally, concerns regarding the party's financial capabilities for the presidential campaign were raised, with Jungudo Haruna Moham dismissing claims about the party's lack of a presidential candidate.
