PDP Loses Final Seat in Sokoto Assembly as Randa Defects

Abdullahi Randa, a member of the Sokoto State Assembly representing the Tureta constituency, has officially defected from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the African Democratic Congress (ADC). His defection was confirmed through a letter read during a plenary session on Tuesday, with Speaker Tukur Bala acknowledging the decision.

Randa's exit follows a prolonged leadership crisis within the PDP, which has weakened the party's capacity to function as a credible opposition. He stated that the PDP platform was no longer viable for him.

This defection comes after several other PDP lawmakers resigned and joined the ADC, including seven members who left on April 7, alongside others who joined the All Progressives Congress (APC). Following Randa's departure, the PDP no longer holds any seats in the Sokoto State Assembly, which now consists of 22 APC members and eight ADC members.
