PDP: North Central, North West Clash Over National Chairmanship

The PDP is facing a clash between the North Central and North West regions over the national chairmanship position. The National Executive Committee (NEC) is set to consider a proposal from the Zoning Committee to maintain the existing zoning arrangement for party offices leading up to the 2027 general election.

A member of the NEC from the North argued that the North deserved the chairmanship position, citing the region's full tenure since the removal of former Chairman Senator Iyorchia Ayu. The party leader emphasized the importance of balancing the ticket by choosing a candidate from a region with a large voting population.

The Northern PDP caucus is expected to meet to approve the zoning formula, with the position of national chairmanship allotted to the North among three geopolitical zones.
