PDP Speaks on Possibility of Jonathan, Peter Obi Getting Party's Ticket for 2027 Election

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is facing internal divisions over the possibility of former President Goodluck Jonathan and Peter Obi securing the party's ticket for the 2027 election. The PDP's national executive committee is reportedly split on supporting certain individuals to facilitate Obi's return as a presidential candidate, following his stint with the Labour Party in the 2023 election.

A party source confirmed that discussions have taken place with Jonathan and Obi individually. PDP's Ologunagba emphasized the party's focus on the upcoming November elective convention in Ibadan, stating that the primary goal is to unseat the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027.

This news comes amidst political maneuvering and alliance talks ahead of the election, with the PDP taking steps to address internal issues and maintain party cohesion. Earlier, Barrister Daniel Bwala warned that Jonathan's potential comeback bid could challenge President Bola Tinubu's influence in the 2027.
