Osun Poll Reveals Electoral Weaknesses, KDI Reports

The Kimpact Development Initiative (KDI) assessed the 2026 Osun State governorship election, stating that despite its largely peaceful nature, it exposed serious weaknesses in Nigeria's electoral process. Key issues identified included delays in election administration, uneven performance of the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS), voter inducement, alleged security interference, and discrepancies in result management.

KDI's Executive Director, Bukola Idowu, emphasized that while the election demonstrated the ability of electoral institutions and citizens to engage in a competitive election without widespread disruption, the peaceful conduct should not overshadow the identified weaknesses. KDI called for urgent reforms in election administration, technology, security, and result collation ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Faculty Member Maupe Ogun-Yusuf urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to enhance operational preparedness and improve communication regarding result management to reduce misinformation and public anxiety.
