PEBEC Directs MDAs to Halt New Policies in Nigeria

The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has issued a directive to all Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) in Nigeria to cease the introduction and rollout of new policies and regulations. This order, given by the Director General of PEBEC, Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, on Monday, aims to ensure that major regulatory changes are paused until a full compliance and regulatory impact analysis (RIA) framework is achieved.

The Federal Government is committed to strengthening regulatory quality and ensuring policy coherence to improve the ease of doing business in accordance with the RIA framework, which is set to be formally inaugurated in January 2025. MDAs are required to ensure that any new policies or amendments introduced are subject to review and approval in line with this framework.

Audu emphasized that the government does not seek to embarrass institutions but aims to prevent policy shocks that could adversely affect businesses, investors, and citizens, while eliminating inconsistencies and frequent policy reversals.
