PEBEC Launches Operation to Decongest Lagos Ports

The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) will initiate a two-day clean enforcement operation along the Lagos port corridor on May 14-15, 2006. This operation aims to address the traffic bottlenecks around the Apapa Tin Port.

Zahrah Audu, the Director General of the Enabling Business Environment Council, stated that the exercise is designed to improve trade facilitation and reduce the cost of doing business in Nigeria. The operation will involve collaboration with the Nigerian Port Authority, Nigeria Customs Service, Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Government, along with other regulatory agencies.

Audu explained that the expected benefits of the operation include improved traffic management, faster cargo movement, reduced delays affecting businesses, enhanced operational efficiency within Nigeria's busiest maritime corridor, and improved environmental sanitation and public order. She urged freight forwarders, clearing agents, transport operators, and traders to cooperate with enforcement officials during the operation.
