PEBEC and NPA Collaborate to Reduce Cargo Dwell Time at Nigerian Ports

The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) and the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) have concluded a three-day stakeholder engagement in Lagos to reduce cargo dwell time at the nation's ports. The initiative aims to achieve a seven-day cargo dwell time target by streamlining port processes and improving the ease of doing business.

Zahrah Mustapha, the Director-General of PEBEC, highlighted the need to address operational inefficiencies that cost Nigeria significantly every day. Abubakar Dantsoho, the Director of NPA, reaffirmed the authority's commitment to supporting PEBEC's mandate.

The collaboration includes deploying a port community system to digitize operations and enhance efficiency. The NPA has achieved a 100% success rate in PEBEC reforms, ranking fifth among agencies.

The expected outcomes of the engagement include reducing cargo dwell time, improving vessel turnaround time, and creating a competitive maritime environment to attract investments and facilitate trade.
