Flanagan Wins Minnesota Democratic Senate Primary

Peggy Flanagan, the Minnesota Lieutenant Governor, has secured the Democratic nomination for the US Senate by defeating Congresswoman Angie Craig in a closely watched primary. This primary was characterized by debates over immigration enforcement, marking a setback for the Democratic Party’s moderate wing as progressive candidates gain traction.

Flanagan emphasized the need for Democrats to focus on essential issues rather than just what they believe they can win. She will compete against Republican candidate Michele Tafoya, a former NFL sideline reporter, in the November election.

A victory for Flanagan would make her the first Native American woman elected to the US Senate. The primary also saw significant results in the gubernatorial race, with Republican Mike Lindell losing to Lisa Demuth, who will face Democratic Senator Amy Klobuchar.

Immigration enforcement was a key issue in the Senate primary, particularly following the Trump administration's Operation Metro Surge, which led to numerous deportations and local controversies.
