PENCOM Launches Annual Verification for CPS Retirees

The Pension Commission (PENCOM) has announced the introduction of a mandatory annual “I Am Alive” verification exercise for retirees receiving monthly pensions under the Contributory Pension Scheme (CPS). This initiative, effective from July 3, 2026, aims to strengthen accountability, prevent fraud, and ensure that pension benefits are paid to eligible beneficiaries.

PENCOM's Director of Surveillance, M. Saleem, confirmed that the verification process will help maintain the integrity and sustainability of the pension system.

The verification will be conducted annually, with PENCOM reserving the right to carry out mid-year spot checks if necessary. Pension Fund Administrators (PFAs) are required to provide both digital and physical verification options, including a mobile application and secure web portal for remote video verification.

Retirees must register their Retirement Savings Account (RSA) details and will be notified via various channels about the verification process. Failure to complete the verification within 12 months will result in a temporary suspension of monthly pension payments, with a three-month grace period provided.
