PENGASSAN Achievements Under Osifo: Stability in Oil Sector

Comrade Festus Osifo, the outgoing President of the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN), highlighted his administration's achievements over the past six years during a media parley in Abuja. He emphasized the protection of workers' jobs, improvement of welfare packages, and contributions to stability in Nigeria's oil and gas sector.

Osifo noted that effective union leadership requires visibility and impact, stating that PENGASSAN remained committed to safeguarding members' welfare despite economic shocks, particularly the naira's devaluation in 2023. The union negotiated with employers to restore purchasing power lost by workers, often exceeding inflation rates.

Osifo described his leadership style as hands-on, ensuring that union members saw their leaders during negotiations and industrial challenges. This approach helped manage disputes over job cuts and welfare without escalating into prolonged crises.

He stated that PENGASSAN's proactive engagement contributed to maintaining relative industrial peace in the oil and gas sector, contrasting with strikes and job losses in other sectors.
