PENGASSAN Suspends Dangote Refinery Strike After Government Intervention

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has suspended a nationwide strike at the Dangote Refinery after government intervention. The strike, which began on September 28, was triggered by the alleged dismissal of 800 workers, mostly fresh graduate trainees.

PENGASSAN President Festus Osifo stated that the workers were unjustly accused of economic sabotage. The union signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the refinery management to address the issue.

The intervention involved top government officials, including the National Security Adviser and Labor Minister. Osifo accused Aliko Dangote of attempting to place himself above the law.

The standoff has been temporarily resolved, allowing operations to resume at the refinery.
