NUPENG Suspends Strike After Agreement with Dangote: Union Rights Upheld

The Nigeria Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) has suspended a nationwide strike after reaching an agreement with the management of Dangote Refinery and Petrochemicals. The strike was prompted by a dispute over worker unionization, with NUPENG accusing Dangote Group of denying employees the right to join a recognized labor union.

Following a two-day industrial action and government intervention, both parties signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) agreeing to allow willing employees to join a registered union. The MoU stipulates that the unionization process will commence immediately and be completed within two weeks, with workers not being penalized for participating in the strike.
