Peter Obi Survives Assassination Attempt in Edo State

Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, has spoken out following an assassination attempt on his life in Edo State. The attack occurred on Tuesday at his residence in Benin City, where armed men opened fire, damaging the main gate and several vehicles parked within the compound.

Obi expressed his worries about the state of democracy in Nigeria, highlighting the troubling violence faced by political leaders. The incident took place shortly after a formal declaration event attended by prominent political figures, including John Odigi Oyegun, the former national chairman of the All Progressives Congress, and Olumide Akpata of the African Democratic Congress.

A video from the scene later revealed bullet holes in the estate gate and the extent of the destruction caused by the gunfire. The attack is believed to have been targeted at Obi, as reported by Yunusa Tanko, the national coordinator of the Obidi Movement, who described the gunmen's intent to harm.
