Peter Obi Denies Allegations of Anti-North Sentiments

Peter Obi, the former Governor of Anambra State, has denied allegations of anti-North sentiments during his tenure, labeling them as politically motivated falsehoods aimed at creating ethnic division. In a statement issued by his spokesperson, Ibrahim Umar, Obi described claims that he targeted northern traders and beggars as completely untrue.

His administration implemented social welfare programs designed to assist vulnerable individuals, including destitute persons and unaccompanied minors across the country. Obi emphasized that these initiatives were purely humanitarian and not directed at any ethnic group.

He maintained cordial relationships with the northern Muslim community throughout his eight years as governor, taking steps to protect northern residents, particularly members of the Hausa community in Onitsha. The statement also highlighted Obi's support for Muslim residents, including sponsorship for pilgrimages to Mecca, and ensured equal treatment for citizens regardless of religious affiliation.
