Melaye: Obi Fantastic, But Not Time for Presidency

In an interview on Thursday, Dino Melaye, a former Kogi West Senator, expressed that although Peter Obi is a fantastic man, it is not the right time for him to become president. Melaye made this declaration while discussing the political landscape in Nigeria.

He recalled his departure from the National Assembly to contest the Kogi State gubernatorial election under the platform of the People's Democratic Party (PDP), where he lost to the incumbent governor, Ahmadu Ododo. Melaye also criticized the All Progressives Congress (APC) for its opposition to real-time electronic transmission of election results, describing the party's stance as a sign of insecurity and fear despite its political dominance.

He made these comments amid widespread protests in Abuja and across social media against the Senate's decision to remove the clause mandating real-time electronic transmission from the Electoral Act, which civil society organizations and pro-democracy advocates argue weakens electoral integrity and opens the door to post-election manipulation.
