Peter Obi Sends Fresh Message to FG Over Plans to Raise Politicians’ Salaries

Former presidential candidate Peter Obi criticized the Federal Government's plan to raise the salaries of political office holders, calling it insensitive and unjustifiable amid the country's economic challenges. The Revenue Mobilisation Allocation Fiscal Commission (RMAFC) proposed the salary increase for top officials, citing the outdated salary structure in place since 2008.

Obi strongly opposed the move, emphasizing the need to prioritize the welfare of the people over the greed of leaders. He condemned the proposed salary hike as a shameless grab for wealth at the expense of struggling Nigerians.

Obi urged the government to focus on improving the living conditions and security of public workers, particularly underpaid and overworked police officers. He called on the RMAFC to address the long-neglected welfare of Nigerians and ensure that public service is viewed as a means of serving the nation, not accumulating wealth.
