Ayo Salami: Peter Obi Should Not Have Contested 2023 Election

Ayo Salami, the former President of the Court of Appeal, expressed that Peter Obi should not have contested the 2023 presidential election. Speaking during a visit to the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism (WSCIJ) in Ilorin, Kwara State, Salami highlighted that Obi's candidacy was inconsistent with constitutional provisions.

He noted that the Labour Party (LP) had already submitted its membership registration to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), indicating that Obi should not have been allowed to contest. Salami referenced the recent case of Abba Yusuf, the Governor of Kano State, who defected from the People's Democratic Party (PDP) to the All Progressives Congress (APC), suggesting that similar issues arise from improper membership registrations.

He criticized the quality of judicial decisions, attributing inadequacies to factors such as the expansion of law faculties across universities, and lamented the state of judicial judgments, even at the Supreme Court level.
