Ex-Judge Salami Critiques Obi's 2023 Presidential Bid

Isa Ayo Salami, a retired former President of the Court of Appeal, expressed that Peter Obi should not have been permitted to contest in the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party. Salami attributed this situation to incompetence among judiciary members and highlighted the need for careful consideration in judicial appointments.

He spoke during a courtesy visit to the Wole Soyinka Centre for Investigative Journalism in Ilorin, Kwara State, where he presented an award. Salami referenced a similar issue concerning Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, where the Supreme Court upheld the election outcome despite earlier concerns raised in lower courts.

He criticized the promotion processes within the judiciary and emphasized the importance of appointing judges based on competence and experience. Salami also acknowledged the influence of late nationalist Chief Obafemi Awolowo on his decision to study law.
