Peter Obi's Camp Alarms Over 600 Lecturers' Endorsement

The Peter Obi Media Office expressed alarm regarding the reported endorsement of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu by around 600 university lecturers. Spokesman Idris Zekeri issued a statement on Tuesday, describing the endorsement as a troubling early attempt to establish a network of partisan actors in preparation for the 2027 presidential election.

The media office highlighted that these academics are often engaged as electoral officials, including returning and collation officers, which raises significant concerns about conflicts of interest. The statement emphasized that the public endorsement by these academics is not merely a personal political preference but could signify the groundwork for manipulating the upcoming election.

It warned that electoral malpractice can begin well before election day through the strategic placement of individuals who may influence the electoral process. The office urged Nigerians to remain vigilant against potential conflicts of interest arising from such endorsements.
