Peter Rufai to Begin Final Journey Home Thursday

Former Nigerian goalkeeper, Peter Rufai, who passed away on July 3rd, 2025, will begin his final journey home with funeral arrangements starting on Thursday, August 21. The family has released details of the funeral program, which includes an open service with song presentations and a biography presentation at the Raji Rasaki Estate field in Lagos.

The funeral mass will be held the following day at a Catholic Church in Festac Town, Lagos, with interment at Ikoyi Cemetery in Lagos. The funeral rites will conclude on Sunday, August 24 with a thanksgiving service at the same church.

Rufai, affectionately known as Dodo Mayana, was a celebrated goalkeeper for Nigeria, participating in two FIFA World Cups in 1994 and 1998, and winning the Africa Cup of Nations in 1994.
