NFF Takes Bold Step as Christian Chukwu, Peter Rufai Laid to Rest Amid Tears

Former Super Eagles captain Christian Chukwu and goalkeeper Peter Rufai were laid to rest in separate ceremonies amid tears. Chukwu, who died at age 74 in April at the Niger Foundation Hospital in Enugu State, had his funeral rites on August 16 in his hometown of Obe.

The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) provided financial assistance to the families of both legends. NFF President Ibrahim Gusau commended Chukwu's dedication to the national team, while Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah directed Rangers International to retire Chukwu's jersey number five in his honor.

Rufai, who passed away in August, was buried on August 15 after a funeral mass in Festac Town. The NFF delegation attended both events, highlighting the impact these players had on Nigerian football.

Former teammates and officials praised their dedication and contributions to the sport.
