Presidency Mourns Peter Onwubuariri's Passing

On 15 September 2026, the Presidency announced the death of Peter Onwubuariri, the Assistant Director of Information and Public Relations in the Presidential Villa, calling it a major loss to President Bola Tinubu and the Media and Public Relations Department. Bayo Onanuga, the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, led a delegation to express condolences to Onwubuariri's family in Abuja.

Onanuga emphasized Onwubuariri's versatility as a writer and master of ceremonies, stating that his death has created a "vacuum that will be difficult to fill." He described Onwubuariri as a hardworking and dependable professional. Tunde Rahman, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Media and Special Duties, praised Onwubuariri's work ethic and contributions, while Bashir Ahmad, former Special Assistant to President Muhammadu Buhari on New Media, expressed shock and offered prayers for the deceased.

The Presidency assured the family of continued support during their mourning period.
